This website is dedicated to my father, John Sr, and my Uncle Charles “Bud” Langenfelder who both passed away in 2008. They started us down this path. They are both greatly missed.

A little bit about the Maryland Pig Roaster

The Langenfelder name was well-known in the 50′s, 60′s and early 70′s for bull roasts and crab feasts. My Uncle Bud (with my father) continued this tradition in the 80′s by doing pork stands at the Howard County and Maryland State Fairs into the early 2000′s.

    I am the owner and executive chef for the Maryland Pig Roaster. Maryland Pig Roaster was licensed in the state of Maryland in 2008.  I am a Baltimore native and currently reside in Columbia, Md. I am continuing the family tradition by slow roasting whole pigs and providing personal chef services. I attend various culinary classes to continue my culinary education with local educational institutions including attending classes at the Culinary Institute of America.  I am currently a KCBS member, competitor and judge. I hold a Serv_Safe Food Protection Manager Certification, which is required by all Maryland health departments and am a Certified Food Service manager with Howard County.

    Married since 1978, my wife and sous chef.  She is always by my side keeping me straight and putting up with my quirks.  I couldn't do this without her. She is always willing to step up when I need help, which is most of the time.  Sandy is also a KCBS member and judge.

    While not quite as refined as my Uncle John, I have been serving Langenfelder BBQ for the last 17 years. I got my start with my Grandpop John and his brother, my Uncle Bud, at the Maryland State Fair.  It was at the Fair where I served more pork than most people have ever seen.

    I pride myself in being a MD Pigroaster.  Even going so far as to personally choose, cut and split the wood we use to smoke our meats.  After all you can't have good BBQ if you don't have good smoke.

    Paul's youngest brother and newest addition to the Maryland Pig Roaster.  Lee has his own small business handcrafting and selling duck calls.  The name of this company is Renegade Fowlers Custom Waterfowl Calls.

The Maryland Pig Roaster is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Years Day.
